The Third Battle of Panipat

On 14 January 1761, the Third Battle of Panipat took place at Panipat, 97 KM north of Delhi. 

It was fought between the Maratha Empire and the invading Afghan Army of Ahmad Shah Durrani (Ahmad Shah Abdali). Abdali was supported by Indian allies – the Rohilla (Najib-Ud-Daula), Afghans of the Doab region, and Shuja-Ud-Daula, the Nawab of Oudh.

The Maratha army was led by Sadashivrao Bhau who was third in authority after the Chhatrapati (Maratha King) and the Peshwa (Maratha Prime Minister). The main Maratha army was stationed in Deccan with the Peshwa.

Jealousy

Maratha Empire was ruled by Peshwas, who were Brahmin. So, Rajput kings were jealous of the Peshwa Empire. Also, Marathas were establishing the Hindu Empire. So, all Muslims of India were jealous of Marathas.
